What we did
The work, step by step
6 stages, from stripping the old covering to the final vents.
- 1
Stripped the old roof
We removed the old roof covering and cleared it from site, leaving the structure ready for the new installation.
- 2
Fitted a breathable membrane
We laid a high-performance breathable membrane across the whole roof. It is waterproof but still lets moisture escape, so the roof space stays dry and free from condensation.
- 3
Installed new pressure-treated battens
New pressure-treated battens went on next. The treated timber resists rot and decay and gives every tile a secure fixing.
- 4
Laid Marley Modern interlocking tiles
We finished the roof in Marley Modern interlocking tiles. Their slim, clean profile suits a contemporary home, and the interlocking design stands up well to wind and driving rain.
- 5
Fitted dry ridge and dry verge systems
Instead of traditional mortar, we fitted a mechanically fixed dry ridge and dry verge system. It will not crack or crumble over time, so the ridge and edges stay secure in all weathers with far less maintenance.
- 6
Added interlocking roof vents
We fitted vents that interlock with the tiles to keep air moving through the roof space, which protects the timbers for the long term.
